David Kerr's ceramics endeavours are collectively known as Wand Ceramics. David is a skilled ceramicist with a long association with sculptors and there ilk in and around the Ballarat area as well as travelling to various collective sculpting and firing events. His Sculptures are primarily composed of terracotta clay blended with a variety of textures. He creates objects which experiment with colour, texture shape and scale drawing inspiration from abstract impressions of subject matter.
Each Wand Ceramics sculpture is unique and created by David Kerr in his dedicated studio. He draws influence from the surrounding world and his own experiences as well as conceptualizing form and method. Davids sculptures are hand formed combinations of component parts. Constructed from geometric forms and bowls with bodies conglomerate of Terracotta's. His designs draw on decorative, minimal, modernist, organic and overall positive aesthetics. A variety of techniques are used to expose the colour of the clay and highlight the varied textures with shadows casting lines enhancing the form.
